House News

House win1

This will be our final submission to the Newsletter on behalf of all the House Leaders, and we would like to say an enormous thank you to all of the staff who helped run House Events this year. Our Academic House Events typically take place at breaks, lunches and after school. Both students and staff go above and beyond by volunteering their time to have some friendly, well-spirited competition in these events. Our Athletic House Events are mostly run in PE and Games lessons by our fantastic PE staff. However, there are a number of Athletic events that also require PE staff, House Leaders and additional staff and students to volunteer their time and deserve praise for keeping this House System running smoothly outside of school hours. The amount of planning, organising and effort for all these events, including the highly anticipated Sports Day at the end of the Year, is outstanding, which is reflective of our staff.

Speaking of Sports Day, last week on the 3 July, the event was phenomenal! The results have all been tallied, the Year Groups have been given their individual results, but the question is… Which House won it overall? Last Year, for 2022/2023, Carew, who historically are a very strong House athletically, took the title of Sports Day winner. Drumroll please…. The 2023/2024 Sports Day winners are Bourne! Their enthusiasm and athleticism was fantastic across all year groups, with Year 9 and Year 10 coming first in their Year groups. Congratulations, Bourne!

Sports Day accounts for a double weighted Athletic Event that’s worth 10% of the points towards the Victor Ludorum. With the completion of all the Academic Events (worth 35%), Athletic Events (worth 20%), Sports Day (worth 10%), and the calculation of Achievement Points over the year (worth 35%), we now can determine the winning House for 2023/2024 of the Victor Ludorum. Last year, St Benet finally broke their over 20 year streak of losing and had the Victor Ludorum covered in their purple ribbons for the year… For 2023/2024, we have had another historic loss streak ended! After nearly 14 years, a massive congratulations goes to Tudor for securing the Victor Ludorum! They’ve been second place the past two years, and have demonstrated their excellence in all areas this year. They deserve this win, and we are all very proud of the students and staff in Tudor who have made this possible.

Mr Howard, as Head of Tudor would like to congratulate Tudor House on an excellent year - there has been some fantastic academic and athletic achievements in all House events, and continuing excellence shown across the school with how many Achievement points have been awarded to Tudor. You deserve all of the credit in taking this House to the top of the Victor Ludorum table and winning that fabled prize. Our eyes now look forward to next year and retaining the Victor Ludorum, something which hasn’t been done since Merton in 2018/19 and 2019/20 and for Tudor since 1971/72 and 1972/73! I wish you all the best summer, and lets hope England can match us and win some silverware as well!
