6. Supporting Wellbeing
The move to Secondary school can be quite daunting for students (even those who are very confident). Below are a few ideas which Parents and Carers have shared with us that have really helped with the transition:
- Encouraging your child to ask for help if unsure
- Helping them practise organisation (packing bag the night before)
- Supporting a good sleep routine
- Visiting the route or school gates beforehand if they’re nervous
Let them know it’s OK not to know everything straight away — everyone is new.
7. Optional but Helpful Extras
Consider:
- A watch (to help with punctuality)
- A small deodorant for PE days
- A homework folder
- A lightweight backpack (big enough for A4 books)
- Spare stationery at home for emergencies
8. Final Checks the Week Before Term
- Uniform labelled and ready
- Shoes worn in (to avoid blisters!)
- Bag packed
- Travel route confirmed and practised
- Early nights in the run-up to the first day
- Your child feels reassured and knows who to speak to if unsure
Need Support?
We’re always happy to help.

Pre- Loved Uniform
Glyn School hold a pre-loved uniform sale, every day from 3.15pm to 4.15pm, to allow Parents and Carers to purchase items. Please go to Main Reception and you will be directed to the sale.
Many families purchase pre-loved uniform either as ‘spares’ or to replace items that have been outgrown.
Payment for items will be made via your ParentPay account or via Debit/Credit Card at the point of purchase.
The pre-loved uniform shop is able to run due to the generous donations from our families. If you have any surplus uniform, we will gladly accept this. Please bring uniform donations to Main Reception. Please note that we are no longer able to accept books or electronic items, as we are unable to recycle these.
