CCF Round-Up
The CCF is an extracurricular activity which is not offered at many other schools, and I am very proud of our growing Contingent. Just before the recent half term break, several of the Cadets took part in Exercise First Nights; Year 9 and Year 10 Cadets learning basic field craft. This exercise took place in the beautiful grounds of our partner school, City of London Freemen’s School in Ashtead. Students learnt how to put up a shelter called a Basha, and the art of camouflage. Other lessons were held in the outdoor classroom, with instruction from some of the Senior Cadets.
We were also able to run a Skills at Arms for some of the Senior Cadets and we are hoping to run a similar activity early next year, before we go away for Exercise Half Way.
Congratulations to all the Cadets who have received promotions since September. The most recent promotion was given to Spencer 13M1 from Sergeant to Staff Sergeant, which was only announced this week in the Orders.
I would particularly like to thank the Sixth Form Cadets who provided the Honour Guard during the school’s Remembrance Service last week; they were a glowing example of why the Glyn Freemen’s Contingent is starting to thrive.
Last Sunday, Miss Caverhill and I were able to attend the Remembrance Service at St Mary’s Church in Ewell Village to represent the school and the Contingent and lay a wreath. Although the smaller service (due to Covid restrictions) was very moving, we hope that the full parade for Remembrance Day will resume next year.
