DofE Round-Up
Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) Round-Up
Good news! We have finally caught up with all the DofE expeditions that were postponed due to Covid restrictions and I am pleased to say that, although there was no camping involved, all the students who took part enjoyed the adventures of being out in the Surrey Hills.
In total, from Summer 2020 to October 2021, we completed 10 expeditions, which would not have been possible without the support of the staff who gave up their weekends. On the whole, the weather was generally kind to us. The experts from Learn Outdoors provided extra insights into the flora and fauna of the Surrey Hills, which some of the groups used for their expedition aims. A particular highlight from the expeditions came when one of the Silver Award groups presented a t-shirt that mapped their journey, fulfilling one of their aims.
We managed to get a bit further afield for the qualifying expedition for the Gold Award, taking students to Ashdown Forest. Although the sun was not always shining, a resourceful group decided to bring their own ice creams with them, as they are not allowed to buy treats during an expedition!
Duke of Edinburgh Award Drop-In Clinic - Wednesday 24 November from 3.15pm to 5.00pm in M12 and M13
Year 10 Bronze and Year 11 Silver
Many of the participants are very close to completing their awards; some just require evidence and Assessor Reports to be uploaded to their eDofE accounts. Therefore, there will be a meeting on Wednesday 24 November from 3.15pm to 5.00pm in M12 and M13 to help students to complete these tasks. Hopefully this will mean that a bumper number of certificates will be issued prior the Christmas break.
Starting DofE
We will shortly be launching this year’s DofE, so please keep a look out for the information. Camping will be returning to the expedition section!
Returning DofE Kit
Please may I ask all students who have ever taken part in DofE to check at home for any kit that should have been returned, as we are missing several compasses and maps.
Lastly, I would like to say that I am so proud of everything that the students have achieved, and the resilience that they have shown to achieve their DofE Awards, during challenging times.
