Year 13 Biology Field Trip
Last weekend, 26 of our Year 13 Biologists ventured to a beautiful part of Wales for a hands-on fieldwork weekend.
Students designed and carried out their own investigations exploring how abiotic factors influence the distribution of organisms on the rocky shore, using a range of sampling techniques to test their hypotheses.
The following day, they studied animal behaviour using choice chambers—collecting their own living sandhoppers from among the seaweed on the beach to use in their experiments.
The group then visited The Gann Saltmarsh, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), to examine how biodiversity varies across different areas of the saltmarsh ecosystem.
Before heading home, the students applied chromatography techniques to separate chlorophyll pigments in green and red seaweeds, rounding off a weekend full of scientific exploration and discovery.
A huge thank you to all our students for approaching the trip with enthusiasm, teamwork, and an excellent work ethic throughout!
