Rugby Tour to Wales

Glyn School Year 8 & 9 Rugby Tour to Wales – A Weekend of Rugby, Teamwork, and Unforgettable Experiences

The Year 8 and 9 Rugby squads enjoyed an incredible weekend of sport, learning, and camaraderie on their recent Rugby Tour to South Wales. The trip, which ran from Friday to Sunday, was packed with competitive fixtures, professional training sessions, and unforgettable moments that inspired every player involved.

Friday – Fixtures and First Impressions

The tour kicked off in style as the teams travelled to Wales and headed straight into their first fixtures of the weekend. The Glyn sides faced tough opposition from Porthcawl Comprehensive School and Bryntirion Comprehensive School. All 4 matches were played with great intensity and showcased impressive teamwork, determination, and skill from the Glyn players. Players of the games were Quin W, Jacob M, Luis P and Matt M.

Saturday – Training with the Pros and a Day of Inspiration

Saturday offered the players a unique opportunity to train like professionals, with a rugby skills session led by Cardiff Rugby coaches at the iconic Cardiff Arms Park. Under the guidance of elite-level staff, the students worked on their core skills, tactical awareness, and game understanding — an unforgettable experience for all involved.

The group then enjoyed a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the Principality Stadium, the home of Welsh rugby. Walking through the players’ tunnel and standing pitch-side where legends have made history gave everyone a true sense of the sport’s passion and heritage in Wales.

The day finished with a real treat for the touring party — an evening trip to watch the Ospreys take on Glasgow Warriors in the United Rugby Championship. Watching a professional game live was both thrilling and educational, with players able to see the pace, precision, and teamwork required at the top level of the sport.

Sunday – Final Matches and a Fitting Finish

On the final day, the Glyn teams travelled to face Cheltenham Tigers RFC for their concluding fixtures of the tour. Despite some tired legs, the boys produced another set of determined performances, rounding off the weekend with pride and plenty of learning moments to take back into school rugby. Players of the game were Kade S, Jacob M, Josh P and Harry A.

Throughout the tour, the students represented Glyn School with distinction both on and off the pitch. The weekend was not only about rugby but also about teamwork, resilience, and building lasting friendships. The players of the tour were Quinn W and Preston F.
