Book Reviewer of the Year
Josh 7M
An extracurricular activity, Book Reviewer of the Year, was built and produced for the students who were excelling on the Accelerated Reader programme and needed an extra challenge to broaden their reading habits and develop their formal book review writing skills.
Our Book Reviewer of the Year goes to Josh 7M; well done and thank you, Josh, for completing so many fantastic book reviews. It was great to see Josh accept the challenge of branching out into different genres and perspectives, as well as completing really thoughtful reviews of each book he read.
Please see below snippets from some of Josh’s reviews:
The Boy at the Back of the Class, by Onjali Q. Rauf
It is likely that the writer told this story because of discrimination against refugees. Also, they explained through the characters in the story about the importance and power of friendship. Nothing can prevent people from becoming friends, as we are all human. After reading it, I felt sorry for the people like Ahmet who find it hard to make friends after escaping their country, as they shouldn’t have to go through that as other people don't. I would recommend this book to everyone and if this was a good read then you could read another good book on this topic, Boy 87.
Boy 87, by Ele Fountain
Boy 87 is a fictional story based on the real-life hardships for refugees who have to flee their country as it is not safe. The book is written from a first-person perspective of a boy called Shif. This may make people feel more relatable to the main protagonist of the book, because it is described the way he experienced it. Shif, along with his friend Bini, tries to flee the country, only to be imprisoned. However, Shif escapes and, along with a new friend, takes the dangerous journey to England.
