Additional INSET Day - Friday 28 May 2021
At the request of a number of secondary schools, GLF Schools has agreed that Glyn can schedule an additional INSET Day for Friday 28 May. School will be closed to students on this day.
Following the Government decision to cancel examinations this academic year, a decision principally affecting all students in Years 11 and 13, the subsequent alternative arrangements for determining grades outlined by the examination regulator, Ofqual, have resulted in a significant increase in workload for teaching staff in schools. Students are sitting a number of assessment opportunities this term in order to provide a broad and recent evidence base for determining the final grades, and in addition to the consequential marking, schools are rightly required to undertake thorough internal and external moderation and quality assurance procedures before submitting grades to examination boards with a deadline soon after the May half term. Collectively, the importance and workload associated with these new requirements are such that we believe it essential that our staff are given additional dedicated time to complete this work within their subject departments.
On Friday 28 May, students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 will have a full timetable of work set on Google Classroom, but there will be no live lessons on that day due to staff collaborating in the determination of GCSE, BTEC and A Level grades.
For students in Years 11 and 13, they will finish school on Thursday 27 May. More details on this to follow.
We appreciate your support with this and apologise for the inconvenience created by the relatively short notice of this change in arrangements.
Many thanks for your support.
