Deaf Awareness Week - Raising Awareness
This week at school we have been observing Deaf Awareness Week. There are currently 12 Million people in the UK who are living with some form of hearing loss; that’s 1 in 5 of the UK population. Deaf Awareness Week has been promoting the message of ‘coming through it together’, with the aim of looking at the positive aspects of living with deafness. During Virtual Assemblies this week, we have been raising awareness of hearing impairment, which is obviously more important than ever at the moment due to people wearing face masks and social distancing restrictions.
We have several students at Glyn School who have hearing impairments and we work closely with the Physical and Sensory Support Team at Surrey Education Authority to ensure these students are given the best possible strategies to overcome their impairment.
