Raising Awareness of Young Carers
A Young Carer is anyone who is under 18 who is solely caring for themselves or an adult. There are 14,000 Young Carers in Surrey alone, and it is estimated that there are 750,000 Young Carers in the UK.
Being a Young Carer can be very difficult, and we recognise this at Glyn School where several of our students fulfil this role. We have continued to support our students who are Young Carers through virtual meetings during the difficult past few months so that they have a chance to catch up with each other, play virtual games together and know that they have our support at any time.
Our weekly Virtual Assemblies for all students cover a multitude of topics to further our students’ social understanding. During next week’s Virtual Assemblies I will be raising awareness of the role and responsibilities of a Young Carer.
You can read more about what it means to be a Young Carer on the Surrey County Council website here: Young Carers
