Epsom and Ewellâs Borough Remembrance Service
As part of the Epsom and Ewell’s Borough Remembrance Service, as in many previous years, students from Glyn school were invited to join with young people, from neighbouring local schools and CCF contingents, in being a key part of this service of civic remembrance. This service was made even more relevant as we were joined by local community members who had direct memories of World War II or who had served in the armed forces or civil rescue in previous years.
Melissa, from Glyn’s student leadership team, gave one of the readings focussing on the need to continually reflect upon the great personal sacrifices made by others on our behalf.
At the conclusion of this event the young people joined with Civic leaders and members of the wider community within the main Mayoral chambers.
In this service, and in previous remembrance events, we are reminded that for 105 years the local community of Epsom and Ewell have met at the same place, on the same date and at the same time to show their respect and give thanks for the bravery and commitment of the whole community. Although the event is sombre and reflective it is also a great example of civic engagement and one in which all local residents can have a real sense of pride.
