Annual Career Fair: A Success for Our Students! We are thrilled to reflect on the success of our recent Careers Fair, which was held for students in Years 7 through to Year 13 at the end of last week. The event provided an invaluable opportunity for our students to engage with a wide range of employers, apprenticeship providers, and institutions offering both higher and further education. The fair was designed to inspire and inform students about the various pathways available to them after school, whether they are looking towards employment, apprenticeships, or further academic studies. The positive interactions between students and the attending organisations were truly remarkable, and we are so grateful to all those who participated. Their support by given up their time, expertise, and enthusiasm are deeply appreciated, and they have played an essential role in supporting our students’ career development. Below is a list of our stall holders. Looking ahead, we are already in the planning stages for next year’s Careers Fair, which will take place in January. This year we had over twenty more stalls than last year and hope to continue to grow this for next year. We welcome any offers of support or participation, whether you are an employer, apprenticeship provider, or part of a higher or further education institution. The involvement of all of the participants makes a significant difference in shaping the future of our students and helping them make informed decisions about their careers. If any of our Parents and Carers would like to participate next year, please email K.jones@glynschool.org for more details. Glyn Values Enacted Harry S (12D) has been nominated by Mr Sinclair who has commended him for his integrity. ‘Harry has as always been focussed on all the information given in form time, has been proactive in getting things handed out while also asking if it is okay for him to do so and just generally been respectful and helpful.’ Rory M (8C) has been highlighted for his fantastic endeavour. Miss Lindley has highlighted that Rory has been fantastic in entering a variety of literary competitions and his remarkable animations reflect the high level of effort he is putting into his work’ Alfie S (9D)has been recognised by Miss Furness for his kindness. ‘Every single week without being asked he will help to tidy the classroom and pack away others instruments, tuck in chairs and straighten tables.’ Thank you Alfie 😊 Alfie M (8A) has been commended for his kindness and respect. Mrs Bellanca has reported ‘In every lesson I have seen Alfie show great kindness to his peers by offering to help them in class. He is always polite and willing to offer help in every language lesson.’ Well done Alfie! A mention to Spencer A-R (11B)- a student who demonstrates all of our school values consistently and seemingly effortlessly. I've really appreciated your excellent navigational skills around the Surrey countryside with the CCF ⭐ Finally, Last Friday Daniel V (9D) with the Police Cadets along with a small group of friends did a sponsored sleep out to raise money for a homeless shelter. They only had sleeping bags and the clothes they were wearing and slept outside for the night. He and his fellow cadets raised £2000 for a homeless shelter in Surrey. – This is a lovely story about doing your bit in your community and raising money for a worthy cause. Well done Daniel on doing such a great selfless act and well done despite a lack of sleep last weekend having perfect punctuality and attendance this week. Year 10 Explore the Brain and Neuropsychology This term, our Year 10 GCSE Psychology students have embarked on an exciting new topic: The Brain and Neuropsychology – How Does Your Brain Affect You? Students have been learning about the structure and function of key areas of the brain, including: The temporal lobe, responsible for processing auditory information and memory. The occipital lobe, which handles visual processing. The frontal lobe, involved in decision-making, problem-solving, and controlling behaviour. The parietal lobes, which process sensory information like touch and spatial awareness. The cerebellum, critical for coordination, balance, and fine motor skills. To bring this complex subject to life, students have been creating their own 3D models of the human brain. This hands-on activity has helped them visualise and understand the different structures and their functions. We encourage parents and carers to ask students about their models and what they have discovered about how these brain areas connect to influence human behaviour. Understanding the brain is a fascinating journey, and we look forward to exploring how neuropsychology helps explain everyday experiences and behaviours. Stay tuned for more updates as our students delve deeper into the captivating topics of GCSE Psychology. Mrs T Hopton #psychology #brain #howdoesyourbrainwork #3dbrainmodel @glfschools

An insert from our CCF round up article about last term, from the cadets point of view. You can read the full article in our latest newsletter on our Parents’ and Carers’ Communication page. Link in BIO. “The beginning of the year saw a new cohort of cadets join the contingent, who are full of enthusiasm and anticipation for the upcoming terms and years of their CCF life. I am confident that these new cadets will benefit and strengthen the contingent in all that they do and achieve. I am also privileged to be part of a great senior leadership team and surrounded by a passionate and committed NCO corps, without whom nothing could be completed to the standard that it is now so prominent and respected. I do not take it for granted that I have been given the opportunity to lead and teach the contingent, and I look forward to the exciting exercises and activities that we will take part in in the upcoming year. Wishing all the best to all cadets in this new year.” SNCO Staff Sergeant Harry S 12D #ccf #cadets #termreview #epsom @glfschools
