HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT TRIP
The Year 12 Law students had the amazing opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament, and Supreme Court last Friday 6 December. During this visit we had a great tour of Parliament, and were able to observe debates going on in both Houses. It was wonderful to see everyone engaging with the MPs discussing the impact of Brexit on Irish imports and exports and the Bishop of Lichfield discussing how to enhance cohesion in the community. We then had a workshop run for us by the Education team in Parliament, where we split into two groups, and further 4 groups in each room, and were given the opportunity to design Political party manifestos. It was interesting to hear and see some of the ideas coming out, however wonderful to see the engagement with current political affairs.
Following this, we had the chance to enter the Supreme Court, and tour each courtroom. We were able to read and see some of the key cases we studied throughout the course, and how the law had been applied. We were then treated by Mr Maude who shared an exciting story of his time in the police force, providing evidence for a serious investigation in the courtroom we were sitting in. Overall, it was a brilliant day, and we appreciated how well behaved and excited all students were throughout!
