GLYN SCHOOL HOSTS THRILLING GLF INTER-SCHOOLS DEBATE
On penultimate Friday of the academic year, Glyn School proudly hosted the GLF inter- schools debate, welcoming fellow participants from Aureus, Merstham Park, Meridian, Rosebery, and de Stafford schools. The spirited event centred around the thought- provoking topic: "All 18-year-olds should do National Service."
Glyn School’s debaters, Ben (9D), Roman (9D), and Owen (9T), with Grady (9D) as a reserve, put forth a compelling argument in favour, proposing the notion. The debate was against Aureus school who opposed the National service debate. Their preparation and eloquence shone through, leaving a lasting impression on both the judges and their peers. The boys represented Glyn School with distinction and demonstrated exceptional debating skills and teamwork.
The debate sparked lively discussions and showcased the students' ability to engage with complex societal issues. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their critical thinking and public speaking abilities. Each school brought unique perspectives to the table, making for a rich and varied exchange of ideas.
Glyn School extends its gratitude to all participating schools for their enthusiastic involvement and to the organising committee for ensuring the event's success. The camaraderie and intellectual rigour displayed by all participants underscored the value of such inter-school events.
The final debate was between Merstham Park and Rosebery, topic being ‘This House believes protesting is the best way to get your point across’, the overall winners of GLF debating competition for 2023/2024 was, Rosebery.
Congratulations to Roman, Ben and Owen for their outstanding performance and for making Glyn School proud. We look forward to many more engaging debates in the future.
