BRONZE DUKE OF EDINBURGH 7-8 JUNE

BRONZE DUKE OF EDINBURGH 7-8 JUNE

This weekend 58 Year 9 students descended onto the Surrey Hills, the sun was blazing when we arrived at Newlands Corner, Guildford and the boys had looks of excitement on their faces. The day began on top of the viewpoint and students topped up on water and sun cream before heading off on their own into the countryside.

Throughout the day students had to traverse valleys, hills and forests before arriving at the campsite later that evening. Some groups managed the walk in 6 hours whilst others lost their bearings throughout the day and took 9. However, all students managed to cook a hearty dinner before having some down time. They played football, frisbee and softball before getting ready for bed at 9.30pm – perhaps the earliest they’ve ever gone to bed!

In the morning, tents were taken down, breakfast eaten and once again they set off into the Surrey Hills. Spirits remained high throughout the day and they made their way back to Newlands Corner for 2.00pm. Finally, we had a small water pistol fight to cool down before heading back to school.

Well done to all 111 Year 9 Students for completing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition! Please now focus on completing your volunteering, skills and physical sections on the DofE.
