SURREY STATE SCHOOLS HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
Last Saturday Glyn's hockey team went to Teddington to play in a 16 team tournament. We played very well throughout, achieving a great result.
We first played against Grey Court losing 4-0 against a very experienced team. In the second game, we played a team from Orleans school, drawing 1-1 with a goal from Ethan F (8A). We went into our third game (Broomwood Bs) after an inspiring motivational talk from Mr Simmonds. That worked and we won 1-0, Ethan F (8A) scoring from a short corner routine.
This made the table interesting! We finished second in our table and so competed in the plate competition.
In the semi-final (against Radnor) it was 0-0 at full-time, so the game was to be decided by sudden death penalty flicks. Joe S (8T) scored the first flick, and our keeper Ben S (9D) saved the opposition's penalty flick to make us advance to the finals.
Now we were in the final and it was serious. The Broomwood As scored but then it was outside of the D, so it didn't count after that no one scored so it went to penalty flicks and this time it was best of three in the penalty flicks. Joe S (8T) scored, and our keeper Ben S (9D) saved all of the opposition's flicks, so we won the plate and got medals.
