Year 11 - Poetry Live Trip
After the pandemic forced its cancellation, Year 11 students were once more able to attend Poetry Live! in London. 35 students took a 90-minute coach journey to Westminster Central Hall, on the last school day before their final PPEs, to hear five renowned poets recite their work and the AQA Chief Examiner give advice and tips to students about their final exams.
Four of the poets who recited have work included in the Year 11 students' 'Power and Conflict' cluster. These were the poets who penned 'War Photographer', 'Remains', 'Tissue', and 'Checking Out Me History'; namely the very popular Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, engaging speaker Imtiaz Dharker, and the legendary John Agard, who all stood on stage and read those poems as well as their other works. Of the 500 students across the 15 plus schools present, one of our students was fortunate enough to be able to ask a question of Imtiaz Dharker!
Also making a special appearance was Daljit Nagra who amused students with his poems about identity and Indian culture.
Year 11's conduct was exemplary throughout and they appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the poets very much.
An excellent and memorable outing!
