CCF Round-Up for Spring Term
ROUND-UP OF COMBINED CADET FORCE (CCF) EVENTS THIS TERM
We have been very proud of all our Cadets this term for their commitment to lessons, despite this historically being a difficult term as lessons are mainly inside due to the weather and lack of daylight. This term we have covered First Aid, the Principles of Marksmanship and basic navigation. Together with the weekend 'Skill at Arms' course, all these lessons were in preparation for ‘Exercise Half Way’ which took place over the weekend of Friday 10 March to Sunday 12 March.
'Exercise Half Way' was very cold to begin with, however the area we used had a cowshed for us to stay in on the Friday night. Once the cadets had set up their sleeping area and had cooked their meal from the ration pack it was off for some night navigation. The stars were out and without the light pollution one section even had a go at navigation using the 'Big Dipper'. The following day, we were up early in preparation for several strands of activities including a first aid scenario and a blank fire pairs exercise. All the cadets were pleased to put theory into practice and show the officers the skills that they had learnt.
On Sunday, the sun decided to grace us with its presence, which made it perfect weather for the final section attacks. Having defeated the enemies positions all that was left was to clear up and clear out.
We are now looking forward to the House Drill competition where Glyn School will compete as a house against the three houses at City of London Freemen's School. As well as the Easter Camp called ‘Exercise Stumbling Bunnies’, which will take place from Sunday 2 April to Wednesday 5 April, the Contingent Commander has put together a great programme which includes a day clay pigeon shooting, exercise preparation and an overnight camp.
Here’s to lighter evenings and warmer days to continue the fantastic work of all our cadets.
