Chemistry Olympiad Successes!
In January, A Level Chemistry students were able to take part in this year’s incredibly challenging Annual Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad. Many interesting and timely scientific contexts were covered in the paper, including one based on E10 petrol - a grade of petrol which contains up to 10% renewable ethanol (a biofuel) - retailers transferred their stocks to E10 petrol during the petrol shortage in October 2021. Other questions covered the quantitative chemistry in lateral flow tests and explored a technique which allows vaccines to be stored at room temperature. Students also answered questions about the world’s smallest Chinese knot, cubane and nitrous oxide.
The results are finally in and we would like to congratulate all students who entered the Olympiad. We are especially delighted to congratulate Henry 13B for achieving a Silver Award and Joby 13O2 for achieving a Bronze Award.
