Arrangements for the End of Term
As we approach the end of term we would like to clarify the arrangements for the Christmas festivities and to remind you of two days when the school will close earlier than normal:
Saturday 7 December
Glyn PSA Christmas tree collection from Glyn School car park from 9.00am to 1.00pm.
Wednesday 11 December
Christmas Lunch for all students who have pre-paid by Sunday 1 December. We regret that it is not possible to pay on the day. There will, however, be limited takeaway food available in the Sixth Form Canteen during this time for students who have opted not to pre-book the Christmas lunch.
Thursday 12 December
You are warmly invited to this year’s Carol Concert at St Mary’s Church in Ewell Village from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
Tuesday 17 December
This will be a Mufti Day for the whole school in aid of our two chosen charities, Young Minds and CRY. Students are invited to make a voluntary contribution of £2.00 at the school gate. Students may wear their own clothes and the theme is Christmas Jumpers; there will be prizes for the best dressed students. On Mufti Days students may wear their own clothes, but normal school rules will still apply with regards to jewellery and hairstyles.
The Students’ Christmas Fair, which is organised by Sixth Form students and staff, takes place during the morning for students in Years 7, 8 and 9, at a specific time slot for their year group. Please allow your son to bring a small amount of money to school to spend at the fair. There will be a whole host of stalls and fun activities for the Lower School students to enjoy.
As part of the festivities, we will also be holding a Christmas Raffle. Over the past few years, the raffle has been one of our most successful attractions and we are hoping to surpass last year’s fantastic total of £3,000.
We would be grateful for donations of goods for the raffle, from bottles of wine to toiletries or chocolates, to unwanted gifts. Students should bring donations to the Sixth Form Office or Student Reception by Friday 13 December 2019. However, please could we ask Parents and Carers to bring any donated alcoholic drinks to Main Reception, rather than asking students to bring the bottles into school themselves. Thank you in advance for your support.
Proceeds from the Mufti Day, Christmas Fair and Christmas Raffle will be divided between two charities: Young Minds and CRY, in memory of former students:
Young Minds provides advice and support to empower young people experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. You can read more about this charity’s work here: Young Minds
Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) aim to prevent young and sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, as well as supporting families who have been affected by the loss of a young person through sudden cardiac death. You can read more about the charity’s work here: CRY
Students will register in their Form rooms at 12.20pm and will then be dismissed from 12.20pm as we prepare for Speech Night (attendance by invitation only).
Wednesday 18 December
Students wear full school uniform. All students will attend a Whole School Celebration Assembly during the morning, before returning to their Form rooms from where they will be dismissed. School will finish at 12.20pm for all students, which marks the end of term.
Monday 6 January 2020
Students return to school at 10.00am with Week 2 - Period 2.
