House Music Final
As the Head of the Creative Arts faculty, I always look forward to this time of year, as it is an opportunity to showcase the incredible musical talent that the students at Glyn School possess.
Last night saw the finalists of the House Music competition gather in The Proctor Hall for what is always a wonderful evening. The variety of musical genres that were covered by the students and the quality of the performances never cease to impress me; the enthusiasm and exuberance always ensure a good show for the audience.
Every year, we enthuse about the high standard of musicianship amongst our students, and it could seem that we perhaps overuse that term. However, everyone who was present in The Proctor hall last night would testify that the standard of the performances by each and every student was simply phenomenal.
Whilst all the students performed exceptionally well, the judges had the difficult task of deciding on four winners. Congratulations to the following:
Year 7 Form Group Winner: 7M for their performance of ‘Rock Around the Clock’.
Key Stage 3 Winner: Oliver 9O for his performance of ‘Lucky To Be Me’ on trumpet.
Key Stage 4 Winner: Leonard 11T for his performance of ‘Nuvole Bianche’ on piano.
Best Emsemble Winner: Formation 6th for their performance of ‘Take Five’
Overall Winner: Asher 11A for his performance of ‘Fantaisie Impromptu’ on piano.
Thank you to Mr Cooke, who was our compère for the evening, and his Music Technology Crew, consisting Mateus 12C1, Nathan 12M2, Ricardo 12C1, Ben 12D and Toby 12A, for all their hard work in setting up the sound desk, equipment and organising the evening. Honourable mentions should also go to the judging panel, who had the virtually impossible task of selecting the four winning entries from two hours of performances. Thank you to Mrs Davis (who also accompanied some of the performers on piano) Kaleb Fox (former student and last year’s House Music winner) and Mr Proctor who, for one night only, came back from retirement to cast his judicious eye over the competitors and had the casting vote in all split decisions!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank ‘Music For All’ who donated a great deal of the equipment and instruments used in the performances last night, Miss Meadows for taking the photographs during the evening, and as always, the Glyn PSA for all their support and funding for this event.
Lastly, thank you to the families who filled The Proctor Hall last night and applauded each and every student with such enthusiasm. We were also delighted by the very generous donations for refreshments, which raised £159.74 for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
As always, I am already looking forward to the event next year!
