Rainbows - KS3 Science Club
KS3 Science Club - Rainbows
KS3 Science Club finished this term with a splash of colour, using Skittles.
Students measured out two tablespoons of hot water into beakers. To each beaker, they added an increasing number of the same coloured Skittles: 2 red, 4 orange, 6 yellow, 8 green and 10 purple. They then allowed the mixture to cool in each beaker. Then, very carefully tipping a glass (or test tube), they poured in the purple mixture, followed by the other colours in the sequence of a rainbow.
The colours of the rainbow remain separated because the solutions have different densities, so they sit on top of each other without mixing.
KS3 Science Club is open to all students in Years 7 and 8. We meet on Monday lunchtimes in S9 from 1.30pm. Do come and join us.
