Frosty the Snowman
Frosty the Snowman - KS3 Science Club
KS3 Science Club made frost this week. We half-filled a tin can with ice and added a little water and lots of salt. How and why does this make frost? The temperature of the icy water is around zero degrees Celsius, but for frost to form it needs to be even colder, so we added the salt. The salt reduces the temperature on the surface of the can to below freezing, which makes the water vapour in the tin condense and freeze on the surface. Why not give this a try at home? Snowman costumes are entirely optional!
KS3 Science Club meets on Monday lunchtimes from 1.30pm in S9 and is open to all students in Years 7 and 8.
