Glyn School Remembers
On Monday 11 November we marked a day of reflection in school as we held our annual Remembrance Service to pay tribute to the 32 Glyn Old Boys who fell in World War II, and to Major Paul Harding who died 11 years ago in the Iraq War.
The service, which was attended by staff, Year 8 students, and some students from Year 12, was led by Mr Duffield, and supported by Mr Ward, Associate Headteacher, Jack Benton, Head Boy, and Chantelle Nazaran, Head Girl. Also in attendance for the service was Mr Paul Skipp, representing the Old Glynians.
Students maintained a dignified silence in The Proctor Hall as the Glyn Brass Band played La Réjouissance and L’Armement to begin and conclude the service. The names of each of the Glyn Old Boys who died in service were read out and wreaths were laid at the school’s War Memorial in the Quad as Thomas and Oliver, both 9 Oaks, played The Last Post and Reveille, with exceptional composure. The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) students provided a guard of honour, led by Sgt Alex Mason.
Students should be immensely proud of their conduct today during the Remembrance Service. They displayed dignity and respect, which is testament to their understanding of the great sacrifice that our former students gave for their country.
