A Positive Return
This week marks the first anniversary of the lockdown in March 2020. So much has changed in such a short space of time and, although we look forward to a time when we no longer need to wear face coverings and socially distance from each other, there have been a few surprising positives which have come out of this very unusual and difficult time in our lives.
Some of these unexpected positives will affect how we do things in the future in school, in industry and, indeed, across the world. Many people have enjoyed spending more time with their immediate family than they did in our busy pre-March 2020 lives, with family mealtimes, daily exercise, board games and film nights making a welcome comeback. It will be interesting to see which of the new ways of doing things will continue when we reach the post-Covid era.
In our working and studying lives, many people have found remote meetings, virtual information evenings and working at home very beneficial. The swift technological advances made by students and staff enabled Glyn School to move to remote learning very quickly; we could not have known that our Chromebook rollout was going to be so timely! The new technological skills we have learnt will benefit and strengthen our curriculum in the future.
Our students were diligent with remote learning, but it is safe to say that we are all extremely pleased to have our students back in the classrooms. The students have settled in well, and the maturity they have shown in their approach to the Lateral Flow Testing has been exemplary. Watching students walking through the school gates in the mornings already makes it feel as though we have never been away.
Staff and students have been working hard, and under difficult circumstances, since January; the Spring term is the longest of the three terms. With a final push in our efforts during the next two weeks, we can then all begin to look forward to the Easter holiday approaching, which will give us all a chance to have a rest and recharge our batteries in readiness for the Summer term.
