Great Results for GCSE Students
We are celebrating a strong year for GCSE results as the percentage of students scoring top marks in English and Maths soared.
The increase in our proportion of students gaining Grade 4 across the board is excellent, but also, most importantly, in those core subjects of English and maths. With the proportions of those getting Grade 5 going up as well, we are just delighted.
It is a testament to the incredible hard work of our students but also the commitment of our staff in support of our students - we want thank all the teachers who have taught any of the 256 students at any point of their journey at Glyn.
In this year’s class, 79 per cent of students achieved a grade 5 in both English and maths – a huge increase on last year’s 65 per cent.
Among standout performers this year were Harry Benton, with nine Grade 9s and a Grade 8, Thomas Stirling with eight Grade 9s and a Grade 7 and Callum Dyer with eight Grade 9s and a Grade 8.
Student Callum Dyer, 16, is celebrating after recording top results as he walked away with eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s, is planning to study history, maths, further maths and chemistry next year.
Though he added: “I’m not sure whether I’ll change that now, I’m not sure.”
He continued: “I’m very pleased.It was a tough couple of years but I’m happy now.”
Tom Sterling, 16, who scored eight Grade 9s and a Grade 7, said: “The exams were actually a bit easier than I thought they would be because our mocks were much harder; I was quite glad when they were easier in the actual exam.”
Patrick Humphris is also celebrating after seeing a big improvement in his GCSE scores from the December mocks.
The 16-year-old, who got seven Grade 9s and three Grade 8s, was particularly thrilled with his Grade 9 in RS, following a Grade 6 in the December mock exams.
“I’m really pleased with that,” he said. “I’m very happy because I manage to improve on quite a few things from the mocks.”
Patrick is staying with us to study physics, chemistry, maths and further maths at A level.
“I got nine in all of them,” he grinned.
